FAQ's

1 - Q. How do I order part(s).
A. On the Home page, select the equipment the parts are used in.  Then, on the Part listing page, enter the quantity for the desired part(s) and click the "Add to Cart" button.  Follow the cart instructions to submit your order.  After the current stock of the part(s) has been checked, you will receive an email with the total price including S & H, and the methods accepted for payment.

2 - Q. Do you respond to general inquiries about specific parts?
A. I usually like to respond to everyone as a courtesy. However, if a suitable response is here in the FAQ's, I may not be able to respond if I'm real busy or away. But, don't consider my lack of response anything personal - I just might be too busy to respond to such inquiries when the answer is already here.

3 - Q. What if I want a part that is not listed or for some equipment not shown on this website?
A. Only the parts listed on this web site are the parts sold.  It will only use some of your time and mine, to no avail,  if you contact me to ask if I have a part that is not listed with a part number under a piece of equipment shown on this website.  Sorry, but I do not support all models of Heathkit equipment.

4 - Q. Is there a minimum order?
A. Yes, $15 for parts and a minimum of $5 for S & H. So, an order will cost at least a total of $20. If you just want a part that is less than the minimum but are willing to pay the minimum plus S & H, indicate that on your inquiry.

5 - Q. What is included with the part?
A. Unless specified otherwise, only the item specified by that part number. As a general rule, if Heathkit originally used a separate part number for something, it is not included with any other part unless specifically stated in my parts lists.

6 - Q. (Reserved)

7 - Q. How can I pay for parts?
A. I accept PayPal, cash, checks, and money orders as payment. Checks and some MO's may require clearance time before shipment. Payment instructions are included in my reply email. Different payment methods apply to International customers.

8 - Q. If you are out of stock of a part, when will you have one?
A. That is difficult for me to predict. I only part-out equipment which I deem not worthy of complete restoration. As such, I only obtain such equipment sporadically and it could be any length of time before I get equipment to replenish stock.

9 - Q. Do you have a waiting list for parts?
A. Sort of. But, it's not well kept and I sometimes forget to look at it. So, the best thing to do is to watch the availability status and then order if/when you see the part in stock.

10 - Q. Do you repair any Heathkits?
A. Not any more, except for myself. It would just be too costly if I had to charge for it. Anyway, that's part of the fun, so give it a try yourself.

11 - Q. Can I help you troubleshoot your equipment or problem?
A. It's very difficult to do this by email so I just don't get into it. Since there are so many things that could cause certain problems, determination of the cause would be time consuming and I have had to refrain from trying to help out with troubleshooting. Besides, that's part of the fun with old tube rigs - they are fixable and working on them is true to the spirit of traditional amateur radio. For some help, you may wish to look at a List of Troubleshooting Hints I have compiled.

12 - Q. Do you ship overseas?
A. Usually, See Shipping.

13 - Q. What condition are the parts?
A. Used parts are just that, used. I do look at most parts to see if they appear to be functional when they are removed from the equipment and will not send anything that I spot as not functional for your purpose. Some items are checked for resistance, continuity, or by other means to see if they are probably functional. The parts that are described as new, are new replacements which can be of different size but are suitable for replacement. Unless otherwise stated, tubes are tested to be working.

14 - Q. What if I order and pay for a part that you only have one of and, when it is removed from the equipment, it turns out to be broken or otherwise not functional, do you send it anyway?
A. No. That is a rare case, but if it happens I contact the buyer to see if a substitute can be arranged or refund their money.

15 - Q. Do you warrant used parts?
A. Yes, any used part ordered can be returned within 10 days in the same condition as received for a full refund, less the shipping and handling charges. No returns on reproductions or new parts, or parts that have been damaged.

16 - Q. How are parts removed from the equipment?
A. Parts are unsoldered, unattached, and/or wire-clipped from the equipment. For the latter case, the buyer may have to unsolder part of the clipped wire lead and/or other parts before using the part.

17 - Q. What about lead lengths on used parts that have leads?
A. Lead lengths can vary. Most of the time the lead lengths will be sufficient to permit installation in your equipment. However, since the part may come from a different equipment model and/or was originally installed by someone else, lead lengths my be shorter than what you need and the buyer will need to lengthen them.

18 - Q. Are parts clean and pretty?
A. Well, I think they are all pretty, but some could have dust on them or discoloration, being 25 to 50 years old. I don't usually do any cleaning of the part before sending them out, so that is left up to the buyer, if needed.

19 - Q. What if I want an appearance item, like a knob or front panel, that is "real nice" looking?
A. Most appearance items are sold in average used condition, unless they are also listed as "mint" at a premium price. If you have an average looking appearance item and just want a better looking one, order the premium priced item, not the average item. Please don't order the average price item and then say "pick me out a real nice looking one" or "send me the best looking one you have."

20 - Q. Where can I get paint to match my Heathkit?
A. I don't sell any paint and I have yet to find a reliable source for suitable paint.

21 - Q. How are used parts priced?
A.  Pricing involves several factors, including the type of part, the availability of the equipment containing the part, the demand for that particular part, and the labor involved in removing the part.

22 - Q. Do you operate this busines 24/7/365?
A.  No.   See CALENDAR for normal business days.
